RTU Men's Choir «GAUDEAMUS» was founded in 1959 and is one of the leading men's choirs in Latvia. The first artistic director and founder of the choir was conductor Edgars Račevskis, from 1996 to 2025 the artistic director and chief conductor of the choir was Ivars Cinkuss, but since 2026 Mārcis Imants has taken over the artistic direction of the choir. The choir's repertoire includes music of various genres, eras and peoples. The tradition of a cappella singing is especially cherished.
Since 1960, «GAUDEAMUS» has participated in all Latvian Song Festivals and Baltic Student Festivals. Since 1989, the choir has participated in many international competitions (in Italy, France, Greece, Ireland, Hungary and England), where it has won various prizes and awards. In 2006, «GAUDEAMUS» won the Gold Medal at the World Choir Olympiad in China in the male choir group. For their creative work, the choir and its conductor Ivars Cinkuss received the Riga City Council 2005 Award in Choral Music. «GAUDEAMUS» Orthodox music album «Manas dvēseles tērpu apskaidro» was nominated as the best academic music album for the Latvian Music Record Company Annual Award in 2006.
